Job Title: Summer Art Instructor, Multiple Roles

Weekly time commitment: Varied
Day: Monday- Friday, depending on schedule
Time: 9:00 am-4:00 pm (Variable, adjusted based on availability)
Hours/week: 28 hours per week
Session Dates: July 7 – August 8, 2025
Mandatory Orientation: July 1–3, 2025 (Time TBD)
Compensation: $25-30/hour (paid bi-weekly)

Baltimore Youth Arts is a creative entrepreneurship and job training program that provides artistic and professional opportunities to youth ages 14-25, focusing on those involved in the justice system. Our mission is to assist young people in gaining the creative, personal, and educational skills that will enable them to become leaders in their communities.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Baltimore Youth Arts (BYA) is seeking experienced and passionate arts instructors to facilitate creative classes at our Community Studio during the 2025 Studio Apprentice summer session. Each instructor will work with small groups of youth (ages 14–21) over a 5-week period, helping them build skills and complete collaborative art projects.
Responsibilities
Programming
Facilitate classes for 20 youth, divided between two groups, in one of various art mediums (drawing, painting, printmaking, creative writing, mixed media, graphic design, etc.) at the Baltimore Youth Arts (20 West North Avenue, Baltimore 21218)
Support life skills and career readiness for youth enrolled in BYA’s Summer YouthWorks Programming
Develop flexible lesson plans for classes with an awareness of skill-building and completing projects in collaboration with youth participants.
Track youth attendance and submit paperwork to BYA Admin
Create class outlines, lesson plans, and materials lists, and share them with BYA Admin on the submission deadlines
Facilitate participants in cleaning and organizing classrooms
Maintain inventory of all materials and supplies
Other Responsibilities
Assist in the documentation of student work
Assist in passing out evaluations at the beginning and end of each session
Take part in all required training as assigned
Preferred Experience
Experience working with and alongside youth 14-21
Experienced and well-versed in one or more artistic mediums, for example:
Drawing
Painting
Graphic Design
Printmaking
Textiles/Sewing
Other artistic media
Experience working in community programming or non-profits
Familiarity with lesson planning and teaching
Belief in the creative potential and voices of young people
Strong commitment to economic, social, and racial justice
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication
Ability to work both independently and on a team
Strong organizational skills and time management
Must be willing to undergo a background check (While BYA does not deny employment based on an applicant's record, there are certain charges that would prevent an applicant from working with youth.
