Job Title: Career Readiness Class Facilitator (C.O.R.E. Program) 

Position Type: Part-time, Temporary, with possibility of extension

Position Timeline: February 26th - May  21st, 2024 (9 weeks) 

Program Dates: Session 1: 2/26-3/12

   No programming: 3/13-3/5

  Session 2: 4/8-4/23

  No programming: 3/24-4/3

   Session 3: 5/6-5/21

Schedule: 

  • Mondays: 12-3 PM (3 HRS  Class +1 Prep)

  • Tuesdays: 12-2 PM (2 HRS Class +1 Prep)

  • Prep time during the week before each session

  • Required Meetings: bi-weekly check-ins with supervisor

Location: 20 W. North Avenue, Baltimore, MD

Compensation:  $50/hour (7 hrs/week x 9 weeks) + preparation between session

Baltimore Youth Arts is a creative entrepreneurship and job training program that provides artistic and professional opportunities to youth ages 14-25, focusing on those involved in the justice system. Our mission is to assist young people in gaining the creative, personal, and educational skills that will enable them to become leaders in their communities.

General Description

Baltimore Youth Arts is seeking an experienced and energetic educator to facilitate BYA’s career readiness training program, C.O.R.E. (Careers, Opportunities, Resources, and Education) for young adults in Baltimore City. The Career Readiness Class Facilitator will work with BYA’s Youth Opportunities team to plan and lead the implementation of CORE’s training curriculum. The Career Readiness Class Facilitator will also collaborate with the Youth Opportunities team to provide career guidance to youth enrolled in the program.

Responsibilities

Programming

  • Teach 2 classes per week on a variety of foundational career readiness concepts

  • Work with the Youth Opportunities team to update and revise the curriculum as needed

  • Review and edit, as needed, BYA CORE Curriculum 

Documentation

  • Photographing and collecting content to be shared on social media channels with support from other BYA staff

  • Marking daily attendance

Program-Wide (All Staff) 

  • Attend bi-weekly check-ins with supervisor

  • Attend any relevant PD training as assigned by your direct supervisor and BYA Admin

  • Work with BYA staff to develop field trips and invite guests to speak to BYA youth

  • Uphold BYA's values

  • Assist in maintaining the BYA Community Studio by ensuring that youth have access to supplies and that the workspace is safe and organized

  • Complete other duties as assigned

Preferred Experience

  • 2+  years experience leading classroom facilitation for high schoolers and/or young adults

  • Familiarity with lesson and curriculum planning 

  • Experience working in workforce development, especially in Baltimore City

  • Experience working in community programming or non-profit

  • Belief in the creative potential and voices of young people 

  • Strong commitment to racial, economic, and social justice 

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

  • Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects

  • Ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks

  • Strong oral and written communication

  • Proficient in Google Docs

  • Ability to work both independently and on a team

  • Strong organizational skills and time management

Job Title: Fashion Instructor

Position Type: Temporary position, In Person

Start Date: February 26, 2024

Position Timeline: February  26th - May 24, 2024

Program dates: Monday, February 26th - Thursday, May 16, 2024

End of Session Documentation: May 20, 2024 - May 24, 2024 

Time: Wednesdays, 4 pm - 7 pm

Schedule: 4 hrs/week. Programming = 2 hrs class time with 2 hrs prep (4 hrs

Required Meetings: Bi-weekly 15-minute  meetings with supervisor before or after class.

Compensation: Hourly,  $50/hour 

Benefits: PT, Hourly position, no benefits offered

Position Description

Baltimore Youth Arts is seeking a Fashion Instructor to work alongside Apprentices in the Spring 2024 Apprentice Program. The Fashion Instructor will facilitate one weekly class of 8-12 Apprentices for a ten-week session. There is no programming during the week of March 25th - April 1st  due to spring break.   BYA’s classes are project-based, and participants will complete a series of independent projects that may culminate in a collaborative project. The class will include weekly workshops that assist youth in gaining creative skills that allow them to develop a collaborative project, as well as the potential for guest speakers and co-planned field trips. Responsibilities also include attendance tracking and the documentation and organization of youth work.

Responsibilities

Programming

  • Facilitate a collaborative art call for a group of 8-12 youth on Wednesdays, 4:30pm-6:30pm

  • Arrive to the BYA Community Studio by 4 pm on class days and remain at the program until 7 pm to organize space and ensure that students leave safely

  • Facilitate collaborative conversations 

  • Create examples to demonstrate projects in artistic mediums with support from the Senior Apprentices

  • Develop a session-long plan that indicates weekly lessons, main projects, as well as when and how youth voice and input will be incorporated into the session

  • Assist youth apprentices with creative art-making 

  • Marking youth attendance 

  • Support other staff and youth in preparation for art installation and showcase

Documentation

  • Edit and organize artwork files either in collaboration with youth throughout the session or during the last week of programming before the showcase

  • Uploading all Lesson Plans to the shared drive

  • Assist in updating virtual galleries on BYA’s website at the end of the Spring programming

Program-Wide (All Staff)

  • Experience working with and alongside youth 14-21

  • Experienced and well-versed in one or more of the following artistic mediums: 

    • Textiles

    • Fashion Design

    • Crochet

    • Basic Sewing 

    • Installation Work

  • Experience working in community programming or non-profits

  • Experience in project management and ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks

  • Familiarity with lesson planning and teaching 

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite or Canva is preferred

  • Proficient in Google Suite 

  • Belief in the creative potential and voices of young people 

  • Strong commitment to economic, social, and racial justice 

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong oral and written communication

  • Ability to work both independently and on a team

  • Strong organizational skills and time management
